What's the relationship between these religious ceremonies, and actually legally being married? I assume there does exist a civil wedding option, even if the church wedding is also legally binding in the ordinary course of things? And did those civil variants offer same-sex marriages for longer?
1) They are exactly the same, from a legal standpoint.
2) Yes.
3) Not much longer. We've had a "civil union" for same-sex couples, but the marriage law was changed earlier this year so there'd be no differences at all between same-sex and differently-sexed couples.
