After the best part of a week here in Cork, my phone finally realised I wasn't in Sweden anymore and connected to an Irish mobile operator. Not that it's really usable anyway after the left part of the screen quit taking input after a crack in the glass, but still it's nice that it shows the correct time now.

Yesterday, I took a day trip using the GoBe service to Dublin. Not so much to see Dublin as to meet up with [livejournal.com profile] canyonwalker. We met up at the bus station, had lunch, visited Trinity College (which has very nice architecture, but we skipped the library and the Book of Kells due to excessive queues) and the St. Stephen's Green. Then we set out for the Guinness Storehouse, where we missed the sign at the entrance due to obsctructive scaffolding and instead walked around the entire factory area.

Anyway, we did finally manage to find the Storehouse. The first half was quite interesting, talking about beer production and the raw materials, and then how the brand Guinness was marketed and created, but then it turned into a just marketing and how awesome Guinness is. (I did a comparison with MacDonald's: ensure a consistent quality wherever you get the product, and then market the hell out of it). The view from the top of the storehouse was quite nice, but understandably far too crowded.

All of our feet were complaining afterwards, so we took a cab back to the bus station, where we had dinner at a nice pub, before we boarded our respective transports back home. Quite nice to finally meet another one of the darkfriends.

Back on Thursday, we had a team dinner at a quite nice place, and then a few of us continued on to some live Irish music at An Spailpín Fánaċ, giving me quite a bit of mirth. We had a nice trio playing (fiddle, transverse flute, and accordion/guitar), and the place was quite nice too.

As for the earlier week, the less said the better. Stuck in a hot stuffy office with lots to do using procedures that were unfamiliar to all of us.
