I've written a few more filks. Several were posted to [livejournal.com profile] filk previously.

"Space the Final" wss mostly written as a lark, trying to get a semblance of the Star Trek opening monologue to a tune. To the tune of Gubben Noach (notes).

||: Space the final, space the final
frontier to explore :||
strange new worlds we seek
and at new life peek
and go boldly, and go boldly
where no one has before

That led me to putting "The Final Frontier" into the chorus of The Final Countdown by Europe. Don't expect me to ever perform it, but any filkers who are into 80s glam metal should feel free to grab it. The first verse is unchanged.

We're leaving together
But still it's farewell
And maybe we'll come back
To earth, who can tell?
I guess there is no one to blame
We're leaving ground (leaving ground)
Will things ever be the same again?

It’s the Final Frontier
The Final Frontier

We voyage on Enterprise
for five years away
seek new worlds to explore
and welcoming life, yeah
With so many lightyears to go
and worlds to be found
we go where no one has gone befo’

[hook]
It’s the Final Frontier
The Final Frontier
The Final Frontier
(Final frontier)
The final frontier
It’s the Final Frontier
The Final Frontier
The Final Frontier
(Final frontier)
It's the final frontier
We're leaving together.
(The final frontier)
Where no one gone befo’
It's the final frontier (Final frontier)
It's. the. final. frontier.

I've also written a new verse to the Real Old Time Religion, referencing the Swedish St. Lucy tradition.

We stick live candles in the hair
Of any girl for which we care
We need the light to see her there
And that’s good enough for me!

Last, an instafilk based on a snippet by [livejournal.com profile] publius1 over on G+ in a discussion about code maintenance and version control. It's based on These Boots Are Made for Walkin'. Old-schoolers can replace "pulls" with "diffs". Again, don't expect me to ever perform it.

You keep saying you've got something for me,
something you call code, but confess.
You've been codin' where you shouldn't have been a-messin',
and now someone else is factorin' you mess.

These pulls are made for merging, and that's just what they'll do
one of these days these pulls are gonna merge all over you.

You keep lockin', when you oughta be releasin'
and you keep racin' when you oughta lock it.
You keep samin' when you oughta be changin'.
Now that spec is there, but you ain't read its writ.

These pulls are made for merging, and that's just what they'll do
one of these days these pulls are gone merge all over you.

You keep codin' where you shouldn't be codin'
and you keep thinkin' that you'll never get caught. Ha!
I implemented some new procedures, yeah
and what it does you ain't had time to learn.

These pulls are made for merging, and that's just what they'll do
one of these days these pulls are gone merge all over you.

Goodness, a filker! I haven't written any in years. I wasn't very good, but a friend with a lovely voice who WAS a great filker and composer v- a Beitish lady called Linda Short, long passed away, alas - once sent me a special audiotape with a lot of wonderful classic filks on it - and sang one of mine. She always sounded good, but I cringed and never composed one again. I do love them, though.
