Stuck in Chicago

Remember the old quip that adventures are best if they happen to someone else, a long time ago, and far away. We were supposed to be flying from Gothenburg to Heathrow to O'Hare to New Orleans yesterday for spending the NYE with friends, but then Goliath happened.

We're safe and snug for now in a hotel in Chicago, but stuck for now.

Sorry to hear that. When does it look like they'll be able to rebook you to MSY?

They couldn't rebook us to MSY, so we're flying to ATL tonight and taking the Megabus service from there to New Orleans tomorrow.

Yikes, that's still almost 500 miles away from New Orleans. It's frustrating they couldn't get you any closer. You might have gotten there sooner taking buses all the way from Chicago last night. Or the folk song favorite City of New Orleans train.

The trains were full yesterday! Yesterday's train was full, and so was today's. Tomorrow's train cost close to $600 (admittedly, a sleeper cabin). Please, leave out the backseat commenting.

Besides, I thought given your interest in filk you might have chosen, "Forget those stupid darkfriends, I'm gonna ride the train Arlo Guthrie immortalized in song!" Ya gotta sing the Disappearin' Railroad Blues before they're all disappeared.

Also, there's a tiny part of me that's jealous because on your bus ride you will pass through Alabama and Mississippi, two of the only three states in the US I have not been to yet.
